The San Francisco 49ers know that if they are going to win the NFC West they have to get past the Seattle Seahawks. It all starts with the 49ers offense that will have to be able to beat a Seattle defense that was one of the best in the NFL a season ago.
So far in the early going, the players look as though they are up for the challenge.

The offense was obviously the off season focus for this team. The 49ers’ re-signed receiver Anquan Boldin and kicker Phil Dawson in a free agency in which they signed only two outside veterans. During the draft, they added veteran receiver Stevie Johnson in a trade with the Buffalo Bills, then drafted a tumbling Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde in the second round. That could change the entire face of this franchise from a scoring standpoint and propel them to the top of the football world.
The problem will come on defense where the 49ers will have a new look on pass defense. The 49ers will have three new starters in the secondary after seeing safety Donte Whitner and cornerback Tarell Brown leave in free agency and after cutting Carlos Rogers. To make matters worse cornerback Eric Wright announced his retirement. That could spell trouble in a pass happy league that seems to be littered with great quarterbacks.
Guard Alex Boone and tight end Vernon Davis are both holding out of mandatory camps and that will cause a rift in the locker room and slow down preparation for the upcoming season. It is still early but for a team that has the ability to go all the way they are not starting off on the right foot.
The 49ers have too many problems and off the field distractions and the 49ers will rebound late in the season for a second place finish in the NFC West.
