Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl: Fresno State vs. USC Preview
The college football bowl game odds for this matchup opened with the Trojans listed as (-6.5) point favorites. This may come as a bit of a surprise as the Fresno State Bulldogs are actually ranked in the current top 25 college football polls. The college football bettors don’t seem to care as 55 percent of the early betting action is on the Trojans to win and cover in this game.
The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Derek Carr, who has passed for a nation-leading 4,866 yards with 48 touchdowns and he will lead a Bulldogs team that is eager to play against a team like the USC Trojans. Meanwhile the Trojans come into this bowl game after a season that was loaded with turmoil. That turmoil will be tough to ignore in this bowl game.
The Trojans lost their second head coach of the season and offensive coordinator Clay Helton will lead the Trojans in Las Vegas before new coach Steve Sarkisian takes over next season. The Trojans have the Pac-12’s second-ranked scoring defense but will get a tough test against this high powered Bulldog offense.
The Bulldogs have a few positive betting trends in their favor for this bowl game. The Bulldogs are 16-6 against the spread (ATS) in their last 22 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game, however it should be noted that the Bulldogs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
The Trojans on the other hand have some trends which will point to some problems in this game. The Trojans are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in December, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a double-digit loss at home and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games.
Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl: Fresno State vs. USC Pick
The USC Trojans lost a big game to end the season and they will be less than motivated to play against Fresno State in this bowl game. The Bulldogs will have all of the motivation and that will make them the play plus the points as a dangerous underdog.
Fresno State +6.5
